After participating in our skating programs and acquiring the necessary skills many skaters move on to other ice sports like hockey or ringette or simply enjoy recreational skating with friends and family. Other skaters train as figure skaters and participate in Skate Canada sanctioned tests and competitions.
The Guelph Skating Club offers all skaters the opportunity to learn in a positive and progressive environment. Skate Canada’s core values of excellence, accountability, collaboration, adaptability and innovation are reflected in our programming, instruction and implementation.
Valuing our role and responsibility as a community leader in the provision of quality youth sports, the GSC is an active member of the local Guelph Youth Sport Advisory Council.
ABOUT THE GSC
The Guelph Skating Club is a proud member of Skate Canada, the largest skating body in the world and the national governing body for the sport of skating in Canada.
Skate Canada is divided into 13 nation-wide Sections and our Club falls under the Western Ontario Section (WOS). There are many benefits to being a member of Skate Canada (Benefits of Skate Canada Membership). Under the auspices of Skate Canada, the GSC aims to provide opportunities for fun, fitness and achievement for skaters of all ages. The Club is a not for profit organization serving the city of Guelph and surrounding communities since 1951 promoting both recreational (3+ years of age – adults) and competitive figure skating programs.
As a member of Skate Canada, the GSC is bound by the rules, regulations and policies of Skate Canada. In accordance with the Club’s Constitution and By-Laws, the Club is run by a Board of Directors consisting of 11 volunteers elected from the club membership and 1 representative from the coaching team. The Board meets on a monthly basis to discuss club management and operations. An Annual General Meeting is held each year in the spring to elect officers to the Board and to communicate and vote on matters pertinent to the general membership. Any adult member or parent of a member is eligible to run for a position on the Board.
