Pre CANSKATE

The PreCanSkate program will not be offered at this tme as we are unable to offer hands on instruction.

 

This program is the entry level for beginners who are 3-5 years of age.  Children are placed into groups according to ability and taught by Skate Canada Professional Coaches and assisted by qualified Program Assistants.  The focus of this program is to make learning skating fun!

 

Skating skills taught range from learning to stand and balance to going forwards and backwards.  After completion of the PreCanskate program, the skater may advance to the CanSkate program.

 

IMPORTANT - CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory.

CANSKATE

AGES 4 +

For the 2021 winter season, skaters must have completed Stage 1 of the CanSkate program unless they are able to get up on their own and move independentlyInstructors WILL NOT be able to offer hands on instruction.  

 

This is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program designed for beginners aged 4 and older.  This program is beneficial to any skater with an interest in ice sports (figure skating, hockey, ringette).  Skaters earn badges as they learn the fundamental skating skills (forward and backward skating, stopping, turning, etc.). Formal written evaluations are provided.  

 

We encourage the participation of young hockey and ringette players in this program so that they can improve their skills and enhance their game.  As skaters progress through the stages of the CanSkate program they may become eligible to move into the Skate Canada STARSkate or CompetitiveSkate programs through the PreStar program.

 

IMPORTANT - CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory.

 

 

FAST TRACK

An introductory skating program designed for young skaters who demonstrate an early interest and aptitude for figure Skating.  Skaters are identified by the coaching staff and evaluated by the Program Director prior to entry in the program

 

IMPORTANT - CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory.

 

ADULT/ADULT TEEN

This popular group program is designed for adults of all ages and ability ranges including, learn-to-skate (MUST be able to get up and move independently. Instructors WILL NOT be able to offer hands on assistance) those looking to upgrade their skating skills as well as those who enjoy fine tuning their figure skating & hockey elements. 

 

IMPORTANT - CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory for skaters who have not completed CanSkate Stage 5.  Ages 14 and up.

 

CANPOWER Level 1

AGES 4 - 6

CANPOWER Level 2

AGES 6 - 9

This action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program is geared to hockey and ringette players ages 5 to 9.  The focus is on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance.  Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations.  

 

IMPORTANT - Full hockey gear, hockey sticks and CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory.

 

Skaters must pass Stage 5 of CanSkate to register for PreSTARSkate; and must retain a professional coach affiliated with the Club for Star 1 and above programs.

  PRESTAR

 

The PreStar Program is an introductory Figure Skating focussed session taught in  group lesson format. The emphasis is on teaching Skills, Edges, Dance and Stroking. 

 

IMPORTANT - Skaters must have completed CanSkate Stage 4 or through assessment of the Program Director. All skaters who have not passed CanSkate Stage 5 must wear CSA approved hockey helmet.

 

 

STAR 1-3

This program is designed for skaters who have passed CanSkate and have completed 1 season of PreStar.

 

Lessons consist of private, semi-private and/or group lessons that encompass skills, freeskate, dance and group stroking.  The entry level of STAR 1 is designed to meet the exit level of Stage 6 in CanSkate. 

 

Fitness:  Mandatory 1 hour virtual fitness class, Sundays 3:30-4:30pm; Jan. 17 - March 7, 2021.

 

IMPORTANTSkaters must retain a professional coach affiliated with the club.  Minimum 2 day/week requirement.

 

STAR 4 to Gold

This program is designed for skaters who have passed Star 3 Skills, Freeskate, or Dance. 

 

Lessons may consist of private, semi-private and/or group lessons that encompass skills, freeskate, dance and group stroking.  This program is designed for skaters who are working on Star 4 level or higher Skills, Dance and/or Freeskate.  

 

Fitness:  Mandatory 1 hour virtual fitness class, Sundays 4:30-5:30pm; Jan. 17 - March 7, 2021.

 

IMPORTANTSkaters must retain a professional coach affiliated with the club.  Minimum 2 day/week requirement.

There's something for everyone!

The Guelph Skating Club (GSC) offers both recreational and competitive skating programs.  The recreational skating programs are designed to teach fundamental skating skills to people of all ages interested in ice sports such as hockey, ringette, and figure skating, as well as those wanting to skate for fitness and enjoyment for life.

 

All of our programs are taught by professional coaches certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory for new skaters.  No bicycle or ski helmets are allowed.
