PROGRAMS

PreCanSkate program is available for the 2021-22 skating season!

 

This program is the entry level for beginners who are 3-5 years of age. The focus of this program is to make learning skating fun!  Skating skills taught range from learning to stand and balance to going forwards and backwards.  After completion of the PreCanskate program, the skater may advance to the CanSkate program.

 

IMPORTANT - CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory.

Parent & Tot

AGES 3 - 5

 

The accompanying adult must have competent skating abilities and must be able to assist the child throughout the lesson.

This is an introductory skating program for children aged 3-5 years accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older.  The primary purpose is to introduce the skaters to the CanSkate session with the intent of integrating them into the program by the end of the session.  A Skate Canada coach will lead each session while the parent assists.   

For insurance purposes, the same adult must accompany the child for all lessons.  Both the parent and child will be required to pay the Skate Canada membership fee ($44/skater).

 

IMPORTANT - CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory for both parent and child.

CANSKATE

AGES 4 +

This is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program designed for beginners aged 4 and older.  This program is beneficial to any skater with an interest in ice sports (figure skating, hockey, ringette).  

 

CanSkate 1 - For skaters who have passed PreCanSkate or are new to skating and are 5 years or older; or are returning skaters working on

Stage 1, 2 or 3 of CanSkate.  

 

CanSkate 2 - For skaters who have passed Stage 3 of CanSkate or have been assessed to program standards by the Program Director.

IMPORTANT - CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory.  Skaters should be able to get up and move independently.

FAST TRACK

An introductory skating program designed for young skaters who demonstrate an early interest and aptitude for figure skating.  Skaters are identified by the coaching staff and evaluated by the Program Director prior to entry in the program.  This program includes a weekly off-ice Fitness class. 

 

IMPORTANT - CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory.

 

ADULT/ADULT TEEN

This popular group program is designed for teens ( 14 and up) and adults of all ability ranges including, learn-to-skate and those looking to upgrade their skating skills as well as those who enjoy fine tuning their figure skating & hockey elements.  Skaters will be given group instruction as well as individual feedback.

 

IMPORTANT - CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory for skaters who have not completed CanSkate Stage 5.  Ages 14 and up.

 

This action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program is geared to hockey and ringette players ages 5 to 9.  The focus is on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance.  Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations.  

CANPOWER Level 1

AGES 5 - 9

Must have passed Stage 3 CanSkate or be assessed by the Program Director to meet the program standards.

 

IMPORTANT - Full hockey gear, hockey sticks and CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory.

 

CANPOWER Level 2

AGES 5 - 9

Must have passed Stage 5 CanSkate or be assessed by the Program Director to meet the program standards.

 

IMPORTANT - Full hockey gear, hockey sticks and CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory.

 

CANPOWER Level 3

AGES 5 - 9

For House League and Rep players U8+ who are looking to work on skating development.  More information will be coming.

Skaters must pass Stage 5 of CanSkate to register for PreSTARSkate; and must retain a professional coach affiliated with the Club for Star 1 and above programs.

  PRESTAR

 

The PreStar Program is an introductory Figure Skating focussed session taught in  group lesson format. The emphasis is on teaching Skills, Edges, Dance and Stroking. 

 

IMPORTANT - Skaters must have completed CanSkate Stage 4 or through assessment of the Program Director. All skaters who have not passed CanSkate Stage 5 must wear CSA approved hockey helmet.

 

 

STAR 1

This program is designed for skaters who have passed CanSkate and have completed 1 season of PreStar.  This program includes a weekly off-ice Fitness class on Fridays from 5:30-6:30pm.  Fitness runs from Sept. 17 - Dec. 10, 2021.

IMPORTANTSkaters must retain a professional coach affiliated with the club.  Minimum 2 day/week commitment.

 

STAR 2/3

This program is designed for skaters who have passed CanSkate and have completed 1 season of PreStar.  This program includes a weekly off-ice Fitness class on Fridays from 5:30-6:30pm.  Fitness runs from Sept. 17 - Dec. 10, 2021.

IMPORTANTSkaters must retain a professional coach affiliated with the club.  Minimum 2 day/week commitment.

 

STAR 4 to Gold

This program is designed for skaters who have passed Star 3 Skills, Freeskate, or Dance.  this program includes a weekly off-ice Fitness class on Fridays from 6:30-7:30pm.  Fitness runs from Sept. 17 - Dec. 10, 2021

IMPORTANTSkaters must retain a professional coach affiliated with the club.  Minimum 2 day/week requirement.

There's something for everyone!

The Guelph Skating Club (GSC) offers both recreational and competitive skating programs.  The recreational skating programs are designed to teach fundamental skating skills to people of all ages interested in ice sports such as hockey, ringette, and figure skating, as well as those wanting to skate for fitness and enjoyment for life.

 

All of our programs are taught by professional coaches certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory for new skaters.  No bicycle or ski helmets are allowed.
